“The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch swing with, never say a word, then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation that you ever had.”

Last year, I painted my porch furniture black and added brightly colored cushions, flowers, accessories and a wreath made by yours truly for the front door.  I will include some pictures of this project – keep in mind they were taken with my phone so the quality is not top notch but you can see the difference.

I love sitting on my front porch in the swing with my husband Robin drinking our morning coffee or in the evening watching the world go by….and of course, the grand kids love sitting in the swing with Nana and Tata while watching the school buses going and coming from school, saying hello to the neighborhood walkers and watching the birds fly to their nests feeding their young.  They love running back and forth giggling, laughing with an occasional fall down while daring someone to catch them.

I remember the first summer sitting on the porch watching my girls play softball in the front yard, then without any warning – I turned around twice and I’m taking pictures of them in front yard in their prom dresses.  Last year celebrating Mother’s Day on our porch, I watched my girls play softball with their babies, in the front yard….

Our front porch has been used for counseling, quiet time, dealing with heart aches, observation of “what’s going on at the Smith’s place”. It has transformed into a Halloween gory chop shop, pirate ship, haunted castle, a magical Christmas wonderland, home to many finch and robin birds and last but not least is the most comfortable place in the world to spend time with my family.  Our front porch holds so many wonderful dear memories and chapters of stories.

I thought for fun, I will include the pictures of not only the before/after but some of the transformations during the holidays.

Before with some kind of burgundy color door and side lights – after black – couldn’t resist the picture of my wreath with a birds nest.  Unfortunately, I had to move the little nest due to the birds making a nasty mess on my window, door mat and inside the wreath.  I felt terrible!

  1. You are out of control and I say that in a very good way. The pirate ship thing is awe inspiring! I’m absolutely enthralled with it! Your Christmas lights are awesome, too. Pretty soon you’ll be doing that light show thing coming on with the music. I’m sure you’ve seen those videos with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Wow, you really do have the decorating bug! Awesome!
