Have I been busy, overwhelmed, lazy, a slacker? No that doesn’t seem to be the correct answer. Have I been happy, contented, comfortable being me over these past few days, relaxing….ooohhh I may be on to something here!! Yes, even though I have things to do, overall I can say I have been enjoying a few days of well, nothing… So I need to get my butt in gear and put up a few posts and respond to some wonderful people with their nominations!
First I would love to say thank you to Mischenko at Read Rant Rock and Roll. I love her blog name and this amazing blog is chocked full of outstanding book reviews, awesome music lists, movie likes and whole lot more! If you haven’t had the chance to check out Read Rant Rock and Roll you’re in for a treat! Thank you for this nomination – By the way, I love your answers!
Desert Island Discs Blog Tag
The Rules:
- Link back to BookBum’s original post, so she can see all your answers!
- Thank the person who tagged you… show some love!
- Come up with your answers
- Then tag others to keep the tag going!
Let’s get started!
You are cast away onto a remote desert island:
- You can bring 5 albums – what are they?
- You can bring one book – which is it? You are provided with a Bible/ other religious text if you want it, as well as the Complete Works of Shakespeare. No series!
- You can have one luxury item (it has to be inanimate and can’t help you escape the island) – what is it?
Five Albums –
Prince – Purple Rain (I wished I could bring more). The following day after Prince’s death, I listened to a radio station from Minnesota, the DJ’s played uncut interviews and concerts from First Avenue for 2 days. I could not control my sobbing when learning of losing such greatness and someone whose music had such an impact on me. For my 50th birthday my youngest sister gave me the most wonderful present, ALL of his music downloaded on CD’s and pen drive.
Playlist:
- Side one
- “Let’s Go Crazy”
- “The Beautiful Ones”
- “Computer Blue”
- “Darling Nikki”
- Side two
- “When Doves Cry”
- “I Would Die 4 U”
- “Baby I’m a Star”
- “Purple Rain”
Ray Charles – “Ray” soundtrack I love this movie. Jamie Foxx did Mr. Ray Charles justice in an outstanding acting/performance/artistry (played the piano himself in the movie) while portraying Ray. As we all know Pure Genius and greatness can never be duplicated and that is what I think Ray Charles was. I love his music and the soul he put into his amazing work (my other favorite performance of his is “America The Beautiful”).
- “Mess Around”
- “I’ve Got a Woman”
- “Hallelujah I Love Her So”
- “Drown in My Own Tears”
- “(Night Time Is) The Right Time”
- “Mary Ann”
- “Hard Times (No One Knows Better Than I)”
- “What’d I Say” (Live)
- “Georgia on My Mind”
- “Hit the Road Jack”
- “Unchain My Heart”
- “I Can’t Stop Loving You” (Live)
- “Born to Lose”
- “Bye Bye Love”
- “You Don’t Know Me” (Live)
- “Let the Good Times Roll” (Live)
- “Georgia on My Mind” (Live)
Annie Lennox – Diva I wore this CD out when it first came out. I love Annie Lennox’s haunting, yet mesmerizing voice! I feel in love with this CD when I was much longer and still love it today!
- “Why”
- “Legend in My Living Room”
- “Precious”
- “Money Can’t Buy It”
- “Cold”
- “Primitive”
- “The Gift”
- “Walking On Broken Glass
- “Keep Young And Beautiful”
The Best of Rachel Portman – Composure I would probably have to make a CD of my own. I always find myself lost somewhere that is my magical place when listening to her music. I first learned of her work when watching The Cider House Rules – after that I was hooked! Here is a playlist of some wonderful pieces from some beautiful movies but this list could be endless….
- One day
- Grey Gardens
- Never Let Me Go
- The Cider House Rules
- Chocolat
- Emma
- The Duchess
- Bel Ami o Sedutor
- The Lake House
- Still Life A Rare Thing
- Mona Lisa Smile
- Legend of Bagger Vance
Hilary Stagg – Winter Magic When I was younger adult my mother and the women of the church my father was the pastor, would every year, plan a trip to Gatlinburg, TN. One of those years I went with my mom. While there she and I were visiting one of the many Christmas shops when entering I heard this CD playing. I knew I had to have it. That was a very long time ago. I still have this CD and for a fact, walked down the aisle to one of my favorites pieces and met Robin to become his wife. This CD will be cherished in more ways than one – forever.
- The First Noel
- It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
- O Holy Night
- What Child Is This
- O Come Emmanuel
- Do You Hear What I Hear
- We Three Kings
- O Come Let Us Adore Him
- Angels We Have Heard On High
- Silver Bells
- Still Still Still/The Holly And The Ivy
I have so many other artists I could choose from – Dave Matthews Band (DMB,) Evanescence, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Fleetwood Mac, Genesis, Phil Collins, Eagles, Dean Martin, Etta James just to name a few -and let’s not forget other great movie soundtracks, the fun Disney soundtracks, additional holiday music as well as other genres compilations.
The Book
Hmm….I think I will borrow Mischenko’s answer for this one and say a dictionary – knowledge is great and can help get you out of some situations…..
Luxury Item
I would literally dry up inside if I didn’t have my family around. I would need something of them to remind me everyday that I can make it and will survive. A photo, piece of clothing, a recorded message….this would be luxury to me.

I always find it so hard to narrow my favourite albums down to just a small list…I don’t think I could survive with less than ten of them!
